PERSPECTIVE	GOALS OF SURVEY TRANSLATION	IMPACT EXAMPLES
TOTAL SURVEY ERROR	Reduce error from sample frame undercoverage, particularly in areas with a large population of non-English speakers.	Without data collected in Mandarin and Cantonese using Chinese survey translation, the number of Asian American/Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander adults in NYC’s most recent annual health surveillance survey would have been 47% lower.
PUBLIC HEALTH AND HEALTH EQUITY	Measure health risk behaviors and outcomes that may be different among linguistically isolated populations.	Allow NYC to evaluate policies, conduct needs assessments, and create interventions to improve health and reduce health inequities.
PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION	It is the responsibility of local government to serve all residents.	Supporting the NYC Department of Health’s mission to “protect and promote the health of all New Yorkers”.
